When and where: Tango Tea Room, 3:00 PM. July 1, 2006

Notes compiled by: DC Tedrow

Due to the short notice, those in attendance included only Sandra, Marcus, and myself.

We began the meeting with thoughts from Marcus, a friend and local artist who works out of the K Space Art Studios. Marcus agreed to contribute original artwork for the cover of the July/August issue, and we hope he'll contribute artwork for future issues. He also discussed an upcoming show at K Space dealing with 9/11, and Sandra showed interest in writing something on this event. He also thought that K Space might be interested in taking out advertisements to promote future shows, which is something we need to pursue.

Now that the May/June issue is done (except for the printing), we're focusing on the July/August issue. In terms of what we'd like to see for this issue (as well as future issues), we don't have much on the table yet. Sandra said she'd like to write about a recently deceased artist, Luis Jimenez. Then we have a book review from Jason (already submitted), possibly another book review from Chris Lockamy, and plans to convert our demands list into another "letter from the editors."

We really need to push for submissions, as well as start building up the directory for the back pages. Part of this entails promoting TTT to local writers, but we also need to branch out to other Texans. It's not entirely clear what sort of info to spread about ourselves, though, let alone what to tell those unfamiliar with TTT what we have in mind in terms of submissions.

It is important to appreciate that this is a free magazine, not necessarily geared towards activists and progressives, but definitely one with a leftist bent. That said, it might be wise to ask for submissions that tell the stories of other progressive/radical groups througout the state, things that would interest everyday people. And, of course, we desperately need submissions dealing with Latinos, women, and persons in LGBT communities.

We also discussed ways to get involved with the community and Texas generally, including trips to Austin and Houston. In a neat twist, Irene (of Tango Tea Room) agreed then and there to let us host two films and discussions using their facilities. These events will occur on August 5 (film TBA) and at some point in September (the film will be "Loose Change"). More information about these events will be posted in the future.

We still need more ads, and hopefully we can get some repeats. After milling around Tango and visiting Phar Fetcht, Sandra and I concluded the meeting.
